Fall Trip 2024 Day 13
4 October 2024
I’d forgotten how many vineyards there are along the shores of Lake Erie! I drove through them, on and off, for hours, it seemed. I also had gorgeous views — suddenly there and then gone — of the lake on this clear day, but never when I was able to pull over and get a photo. Alas.

I’m in Syracuse NY tonight with 2,781 miles on the clock for these thirteen days and I’ll be home sometime late tomorrow afternoon after continuing my journey on secondary roads. I still have hopes of ending the trip at 3.9 mi/kWh; I’m still at 3.8 officially but was somewhere around 4.0 or 4.1 for the day.
I’ll leave you with the view from my hotel room window, a sad substitute for a gorgeous photo of Lake Erie had I been able to get one this morning, but at least you can see my car down there, charging from 32-100% for free. The hotel has two charger connections; fortunately, one of them worked. (I pity anyone else that arrives looking for a charge as my car won’t be done until 4am given the very slow rate of charge here.)

I had one stop today at Electrify America in Fredonia NY, my third visit to this location, and because I hadn’t charged at my hotel last night and didn’t want to stop a second time on the way to Syracuse, I charged from 30-90% in 26 minutes. These are the older EA chargers and not as reliably fast as their newer ones, but by the time I went in the Walmart for a bathroom and snacks, I didn’t have too long to wait and I spent that time confirming that I wouldn’t need a second charging stop.
Tomorrow, I’ll have one charging stop on the drive home, probably at the outlet malls in Lee MA, then I’ll stop at an EA fast charger near home to get back to 80% before doing a small charge at the house so that I’ll have a record of the final leg of the trip.
