Summer Trip 2026 Day 23

Today’s drive, the second to last of this trip, was 413 miles and it started in heavy traffic and heavy fog. The traffic thinned out as usual a few miles north of Columbus, but the fog only got thicker until I was well east of Akron.

My first charging stop was just over an hour from my hotel in Ashland OH, at a Tesla Supercharger I’ve visited before. There are 12 V3 superchargers in the parking lot of a hotel, across the street from a McDonald’s, and they were all available when I arrived. I charged from 48-80% in 16 minutes, adding 31.341 kWh for $13.78.

Stop #2 was at another supercharger location I’ve visited before in Girard OH. This has only 8 V3 chargers; one was offline in the app and another died a minute after I started a session. Fortunately, there was only one other car charging so I was able to switch to another device and charged successfully. I went from 52-80% in 13 minutes, adding 26.263 kWh for $12.34.

Stop #3 was yet another supercharger I’ve visited before, 10 V3 chargers in the parking lot of a Burger King in Clearfield OH. Both times I’ve been here before I was the only car so I expected the same today. I did not take into account a lunchtime arrival, however! Every other charger was occupied, effectively locking me out because I need to occupy two slots to use a V3 charger. I parked near the chargers and used the bathroom, and when I came out I realized a car had left! Just as I was getting into my car to pull in to a slot, another Tesla showed up and was about to lock me out again but I flagged them down, explained my problem, and they took a spot that enabled me to back in and charge. I went from 35-80% in 21 minutes, adding 42.009 kWh for $18.48.

My hotel in Bloomsburg PA tonight has free charging — 6 of them, in fact! — so I’m plugged in there. I’ll go from 41-100% and add roughly 50 kWh, assuming the charging session doesn’t get interrupted. Tomorrow, I’ll have a shorter day to get home and will charge twice along the way.
