Summer 2021, Day 21

It’s hard to believe today marks the end of the third week of this trip with only one more to go, but there it is. After today, there will be fewer long drives and more relaxing to be done.

Today was a drive from Marquette MI across the Mackinaw Bridge and on to Grand Rapids MI.

Before heading out for the day, I had breakfast in the hotel dining area with this view (it was a bit too chilly to be outdoors, sadly):

That certainly made me wish I’d paid extra for a room on the lake side of the hotel rather than overlooking the construction site!

Not too long after starting out, I stopped to get a panoramic shot of Lake Superior:

And a bit later in the drive, I stopped twice, first for a shot of Lake Michigan through trees and the second for a panoramic shot:

The air was clear and pleasant today and both lakes looked amazing, as you can see! I also saw Lake Huron as I crossed the 4-mile-long bridge from St. Ignace to Mackinaw City, but didn’t take the time to seek out a detour to stop for a photograph of that lake. Altogether, though, I did enjoy views of three of the five Great Lakes today 🙂

Traffic in Grand Rapids is insane, but I do have a decent view from my hotel room, much more relaxing to look at than what I’ve had some of the nights on this trip. Soon, I’ll be heading out there for a walk. It’s 6:30pm and only 76º with low humidity, my kind of summer.

Oh, today I also passed the 7,000 mile mark for this trip! Based on that, I expect to end up somewhere in the 8,500 mile range overall. Wow.
