2017 Road Trip, Day 1
The first day is never too exciting because it takes a day just to get somewhere that I can start feeling interested about. Today was a typical drive through NY State along the Southern Tier, with a late lunch at Market Street Brewing in Corning. They have this amazing grilled cheese sandwich on perfectly toasted focaccia bread with chopped red onions and tomatoes and asiago plus other cheeses … and it goes beautifully with one of their beers.
Corning was just really busy today, so getting the actual food took a while because of all the orders in front of me, but it was worth the wait.
Then it was back on the road to my hotel in Austinburg OH, a bit west of Ashtabula. The funny thing is that I’m in the exact same room I stayed in when I drove to Chicago in January for the orchestra tour! The room is sort of dismal, but it does have this funky rounded feature which turns out to be the shower. Here are a couple of pictures showing how that all works, but rather than taking new pics today I’m including the ones from January (that’s why there’s a bassoon case):
Other than that, there’s really nothing to mention about today … just a quiet day of driving through familiar territory.
