2019 Summer Road Trip, Day 8
I’ve reached the point in this trip where I have to look to see what day of the week it is because I can no longer remember. And with another week to go, I should be fully relaxed by the end of this trip!
Although there’s a lot more of eastern Colorado than I ever remember, most of today was spent on I-80 across Nebraska. I haven’t driven across Nebraska in more years than I can remember, but I’m pretty sure it hasn’t improved any with age. It’s one of the most boring states to drive, basically flat with a few trees here and there to break the monotony. Here’s a picture of the scenery from when I stopped for a quick lunch break:

Just be glad that I didn’t do a panorama to capture the true expanse of nothingness!
I ended the day in Omaha, a place that reminds me a lot of Sioux Falls from last year’s trip. Lest you think that’s perhaps a good thing, it isn’t. And the Best Western I’m in tonight might just be the second worst BW I’ve ever been in, the bottom place being permanently occupied by one of their locations near Mammoth Cave in Kentucky.
There’s at least a decent beer story in the other blog, so check that out. It’s not a good enough story to get me back here again, but at least it took some of the edge off the otherwise depressing day. Doubly depressing … leaving the mountains and heading into this part of the country. I’m really looking forward to arriving in Michigan in two days’ time!
