Summer 2019 Road Trip, Day 12

Sorry, no photos to share today. This was an intentional “down” day. I walked a bit around Fennville and Douglas but otherwise spent the day relaxing at the hotel as this is the last non-driving day of this vacation.

However, today’s brewpub was a real highlight of this trip, so be sure to check out http://brews-and-pubs.tumblr.com (once I get the update posted!).

OK, so here are some photos after all, taken from my favorite (shaded) reading chair at the hotel.

And while I’m at it, here are some more. First, a photo showing the various levels of docks at the lake side. I used to know the number of steps … I think it was 82 …

And a photo right at the water’s edge:

And of me, in my most relaxed state:

But the most interesting part happened before this. I was sitting, more-or-less reading a book, in the same chair where I took the first set of photos, when a bald eagle swooped past me with a large fish in its talons! It landed in a tree nearby, and I carefully headed for the car to get my good camera.

It was really amazing, and I got some good photos. The fish must have been quite large, because after the eagle had eaten, it let it drop, and the remains hit the ground from about 20’ up with a resounding THUNK.

Yes, I do believe in omens, and this was definitely a good one. Even though I don’t feel “done” yet on this vacation, I feel like it’s OK to be heading home.
