Summer Trip 2022 Day 21

Summer 2022 Day 21

Kansas City is still locked in a heat wave with lots of warnings about staying indoors, so I mostly did just that – I stayed in the air conditioning in my hotel, working on some enjoyable programming problems and watching a couple of movies.

Once 2pm rolled around, it was time to head out for Second Meal™️ at KC Bier plus a return visit to Boulevard Brewing for another crowler to go, all documented in my other blog. In other words, there’s not much to show in terms of a route map for today!

As I was driving from KC Bier to Boulevard, and in particular while driving Ward Parkway from 75th to the Plaza, I was reminded again how beautiful many parts of this city really are. There are so many fountains, gardens, and public sculptures, surrounded by stately old trees, and they’re all well-maintained. It was also sad to see other parts of the city that we used to frequent a few decades ago that have really fallen on hard times, but the parts that are still so beautiful almost make up for the inevitable decay of a large urban center. But even in the worst areas, there are occasional signs of revitalization.

Tomorrow, I leave KC and head to Peoria IL, the next stop on my week-long drive home from here.
