Summer Trip 2023 Day 13
28 June 2023
I’ve finally reached the point in the trip where I’m so happy that I decided a couple of years ago to number the blog trip day entries sequentially; without that, it would take a while to figure out where I actually am in the journey! If only it could last forever …

This was an easy day, just 378 miles north into Oregon through Klamath Falls and along one of my favorite routes, Oregon 58 (the pink part after the number “3”) to I-5 south of Eugene. I’ve never taken that road in that direction, and there was a lot more traffic than I expected given that I’ve previously gone in the opposite direction fairly early in the morning. Still, it was a gorgeous drive.
But I’m getting ahead of myself, because here are pictures of Mount Shasta in northern California as I approached it from the south:

I really should have stopped well north of it to get photos as well – it was totally different scenery, very flat, with Mount Shasta looming to the south.
North of Klamath Falls OR (was this in the Rocky & Bullwinkle cartoons, perhaps?!? It sounds familiar …) I had great views of Upper Klamath Lake (with Crater Lake National Park in the distance):

And Route 58 had good views for many miles, including several miles along Lookout Point Lake (and this is one of the poorer views of that drive):

Along the way, I was treated to massive crows, at least two beautiful hawks, and – surprisingly – two Bald Eagles. The temperature also rose a good 25 degrees if not more, but the air is clear so I can’t complain too much.
Tomorrow morning, I get an oil change and tire rotation and then I have a short drive east to Bend OR.
