Fall Trip 2025 Day 12
24 September 2025

Before talking about today’s drive, I wanted to share this photo of the garden outside the main entrance to last night’s hotel, the very new Hampton Inn in Saline MI.
I woke up to constant moderate rain this morning but it had mostly ended by the time I left at 9:30am I did drive through some areas of rain through the first half of the day, but it was mostly light unlike yesterday’s downpours! Today was just 215 miles on back roads to Ashland OH and then to Hilliard OH where I’m staying for the next three nights. It wasn’t a direct route because it involved a stop at a great brewpub I’d discovered last March, Uniontown Brewing.

After writing yesterday’s entry, I decided to pay $0.60/kWh to charge at last night’s hotel because without that I would possibly need to charge twice during today’s drive (at a conservative estimate). Because I started off the day at 100%, I had assumed I might need to charge after Second Meal™️ in Ashland OH, but once I was there it was clear that I had more than enough to get to my hotel in Hilliard.
Last night, I charged from 61-100% in about 6 hours, taking on 35kWh at a cost of $22.56. This evening, I’m charging for free at my hotel and will be going from 31-80% in under 5 hours, taking on 37kWh.
My 4.0 miles/kWh efficiency for today pushed me up a point for efficiency for the trip as a whole! That will fall again on Saturday and Sunday while I drive about 700 miles on interstates, but for now, I’m thrilled with the way this trip has gone. I don’t anticipate doing a lot of driving the next two days — these days will be mostly devoted to mental health and relaxation.
