Spring Trip 2025, Day 1

There’s not much to show from today but plenty to describe. Here’s the route I took:

I left town at 9:00am on the dot, headed for I-90 West into NY State past Albany, then I-88 down to Binghamton and I-86 West to Corning/Painted Post. The day started off in the low 30s and sunny but as I got into the higher elevations along I-88 things changed. Before that happened, though, I charged from 36-80% in 15 minutes at the EvolveNY in Richmondville NY. There are four new chargers at a small Mirabito gas station and I had a max rate of 225kW (close to the car’s maximum) on a 350kW charger. The battery had been preconditioned, of course..

Not long after getting back on the road, the temperature dropped, the winds picked up, and the snow started blowing. There wasn’t anything accumulating on the pavement, but the south sides of pine trees were clearly white. Fortunately, everything had stopped by the time I arrived in Binghamton for another charge from 35-80% at the EvolveNY at another Mirabito, one I’ve visited several times before. The 350kW charger here was occupied when I arrived so I plugged into one of the two open 150kW chargers and got a max rate of 165kW with a preconditioned battery. That’s not bad, but I was plugged in for 23 minutes this time.

Between Binghamton and Corning, I ran into even MORE, even HEAVIER, blowing snow and even an area of sleet. This was the least pleasant part of my day as there were times that it was quite difficult to see. But I arrived at the hotel without incident and plugged into a free charger to take the car back to 100% for the morning.

Here’s where I ended the day:
