Fall Trip 2024 Day 14

5 October 2024

Well, I’m really late with this entry! Here’s the route though, the dark blue line:

On the final day of this trip, I stuck to the back roads again. Because there was an issue with the chargers at my hotel — one wasn’t working and the other died sometime in the night, leaving me at 73% rather than 100% — I decided to add a charging stop in Richmondville because it was only a few miles out of my way. The alternative was to camp out at an Electrify America in Syracuse early in the morning to see if I could get to 100% before my free 30 minutes of charging ran out. The option I chose worked out just fine.

I drove through a lot of low clouds/fog on twisty and hilly roads for the first couple of hours, but by the time I arrived at the chargers, the day had turned beautiful.

By the time I arrived home later in the afternoon, I’d passed the 3,000 mile mark for this trip and had used 794 kWh of electricity for an average efficiency of 3.8 miles/kWh. The best part of all was that I didn’t pay for any electricity on the trip, getting it all for free either through my two-year “Hyundai New Car” plan with Electrify America or at hotels that had free charging (and where the chargers were actually working).

Here’s the final data from the car:

Because all but 720 miles was on secondary roads, the overall average speed was just 43.5 mph. On this trip with my intention of just relaxing and enjoying the scenery, that was just fine with me!
