Fall Trip 2024 Day 8
29 September 2024
It was a pleasant drive for the most part, leaving Madison just as the sun was rising and arriving in Logansport IN at the brewpub (and just two miles from my hotel) around 2:30 or so. Traffic was pretty light and the skies varied between full sun and full clouds. My route was more-or-less the darker blue line on this map:

I actually drove for just over four hours — 200 miles — before taking my first stop to charge from 35% to 80%. I was only going to charge to 70% which I knew would give me plenty of margin to get to my destination, but something told me to add that extra 10% … and during the 15 minutes the car was charging I found a restroom and bought some snacks so I was ready to go.
Along the way, I saw an interesting sign for a winery, clearly not a professionally made sign, and the name of the place was “The Gilted Edge Winery.” GILTED? Not GILDED? Or GILT? But maybe they intended GUILTED and misspelled it?!? Who knows …
I pulled into the hotel parking lot with 44% remaining to find 4 charging spots! A wealth of chargers for a small-town hotel … and none of them were working. “Oh, we’re sorry about that … management is trying to get the company (ChargePoint) to fix the software problem ….” Thank goodness I had put an extra 10% in; I’ll have plenty of reserve to get to a fast charger in Fort Wayne this morning on my way to Ann Arbor. (Yes, I’m writing this the morning of the 30th before leaving.)
I’m now at 1,895 miles for the trip and am still holding at 3.7 mi/kWh overall. I have another 1,100 or so miles to drive and (fingers crossed!) will have free charging (and no broken chargers) the whole way.
