Fall Trip 2024 Day 7
28 September 2024
Today was an easy day, just 4 hours on back roads from Iowa City to Madison WI. The only issue was a strong headwind for most of the day resulting in a 3.5 mi/kWh efficiency, but I didn’t need to stop to charge and I arrived at my hotel with 23% remaining.

I passed through a number of interesting small towns once again and even had great views crossing the Mississippi at Savanna IL, but one spot I saw early in the drive and didn’t register it in time to stop was the first school that the American artist Grant Woods (of American Gothic fame) attended. To make up for that slow reaction time, here’s a photo of the school from the internet:

I’ll make up for this easy day tomorrow, the second-longest drive of the trip and crossing from Central to Eastern time as well so losing an hour along the way.
But for now, I’m relaxing at my hotel and the car is charging for free once again. I’m at 1,592 miles and an average 3.7 mi/kWh for the trip so far, having used 426 kWh of electricity. It’s hard to believe I’m already halfway through this two weeks.
To back up a bit, here are two street-level photos from early this morning to match the two room-level shots of the street where my hotel was last night, in an area called Iowa River Landing that seems to be a mix of up-scale apartments, shopping, and hotels:

And this is the view from my hotel room in Madison this evening:

And finally, here’s the last photo of the day from my hotel room as the sun is setting:
