Fall Trip 2024 Day 1

Today being a Sunday, I started with the usual backroads drive to the church in Manchester CT where I play organ, then headed out after the service for Allentown PA.

Traffic was heavy after leaving Manchester and while I tried to keep around 71 mph, I was often well below that and occasionally above. I’d started the morning at 100% but had planned to add a bit at the Electrify America at Goldens Bridge NY (because free!) but another IONIQ 6 took the last open charging spot as I pulled in, so I decided to trust ABRP (A Better Route Planner) and just continue on to my destination. It worked!

I ended the day with 10% remaining after 265 miles in 5 hours, and achieved a surprising 3.9 miles/kWh overall. I’m plugged into a free L2 charger at my hotel and will be back to 100% for the start of tomorrow’s drive, about 450 miles of interstate to Columbus OH.

When I pulled into my hotel parking lot and backed up to the charger, a couple that were hanging out at their car came over and were admiring the IONIQ. “Very unusual, very cool!”
