Summer Trip 2023 Day 14

29 June 2023

It’s hard to believe the trip is over half done.

Today was an easy day, the last one of those for almost a week. After a morning oil change in Salem, I only needed to drive 2.5 hours to Bend OR. If you ever get the chance to drive this route, I highly recommend it for the scenery (especially as I didn’t stop to get photos along the way).

The drive started with the promise of great scenery to come (and it did):

After a while, it seemed that there was a mountain around almost every bend! You can also see in this photo that this area was damaged by wildfires; there’s so much new growth already to rejuvenate the forests that were lost.

What I wish I had taken photos of were the vast patches of wildflowers and the reservoirs, one of which – Detroit Lake – was miles long and incredibly picturesque.

Finally, here are two views from my hotel on the Deschutes River. Bend really looks like a great place to explore further, but tomorrow I head north and east so that will have to wait for another day.
