Summer Trip 2023 Day 7

22 June 2023

545 miles today, from Salt Lake City to Carson City NV (south of Reno), and just a bit over 200 miles to go tomorrow until I’m in Oakland!

I was on this route two years ago and the temperatures were in the 90s and above 100. This year, the temps were in the 50s and 60s, nudging into the low 70s by the time I reached my destination! That made for a much more pleasant trip, I can tell you.

I wish I’d had my camera ready for a photo of the Great Salt Lake that popped up in front of me this morning, but I hadn’t expected such an impressive panorama so I missed it. Here are some other photos from along the way:

There were also some very intriguing circular clouds in the sky that I was heading towards for several hours; I’ve never seen them look like this:

I was pleasantly surprised by how light the traffic has been on I-80 ever since I left Lincoln NE three mornings ago. Even though there were several one-lane construction zones, the slowdowns were minimal because of the light traffic.

It was also great to see trees again today and not just the low scrub trees that are visible in some of the above photos. Real trees. Wow!

Tomorrow morning, I’ll drive into the Sierra Nevadas, through South Lake Tahoe, and on to the Bay Area. Updates may be delayed for the next few days, but I’ll begin posting again by the 27th!
