Summer Trip 2022 Day 23

Summer 2022 Day 23

The morning dawned bright and mostly clear on the edge of Peoria IL!

Today’s drive was, for all but about 10 miles, on secondary roads of various but mostly good quality, traveling to Grand Rapids MI via Springfield MI.

If you zoom in to see where the magenta line runs right along I-55, that’s where I was “gettin’ my kicks on Route 66” – following Historic Rt 66 right next to the interstate. It’s much less interesting than when my parents and I drove Rt 66 through the Southwest many years ago, but it’s still fun to be on that historic road even for a little bit.

After that, I just enjoyed mostly empty roads and lots of fields and small towns until Grand Rapids neared; at that point, I was on I-96 for a bit in heavy traffic before turning off for my hotel. I was in this hotel – a Home2 Suites – last year so knew exactly where it was, and I really enjoy the view out my window. Sure, it would be better without all the parking lot, but it’s still pretty relaxing. When I’m sitting in my room, I only see treetops out the window.

I’ll be in this hotel for four nights so there won’t be a lot of driving around the next three days. There will still be posts with whatever I find interesting, but the next significant drives come on Monday and Tuesday when I head the rest of the way home.
