Summer Trip 2022 Day 18

Summer 2022 Day 18

Today was the most annoyingly windy drive of my trip by far, fighting both strong cross- and headwinds all the way from Casper WY to Grand Island NE. Along the way, I also got to see a bird flying backwards (into the wind) as well as one that was “soaring” in place and several that were flying in place without moving.

The day began with typical eastern Wyoming scenery, scrubland close up and mountains in the far distance. This eventually gave way to Nebraska farmlands. (I left these ominous clouds behind as I left Wyoming, but weren’t they interesting?)

My first stop was a true Roadside Attraction outside of Alliance NE that I had known about but missed on a previous trip, Carhenge. This was built by a guy who just thought it would be fun and so it is! It’s a replica of Stonehenge made with old cars.

And there were several outlying exhibits as well, a few of which I captured:

The rest of today’s drive was flat land, fields, birds, and fighting those strong winds. Tomorrow, I drive to KCMO.
