Summer 2021, Day 24

Another day, another easy drive.

This one was from Grand Rapids MI, where I spent the last three nights, to Columbus OH, where I’ll spend the next three nights. I drove via East Lansing MI in order to stop for a couple of hours and chat with an old grad school friend who I see every few years.

My friend and her wife have a beautiful house in an old and comfortable neighborhood, and since the last time I was there they’ve added this whimsical fountain in one of the many gardens:

After that, it was just heavy traffic down into Ohio and then back roads through typical Ohio countryside to my hotel. This is the view from my room with downtown Columbus in the distance (the haziness is due more to the dirty window glass than anything else):

The hotel has one of those fancy little rooms where you step in, press a button and the entire building sinks around you until you can step out and be on your floor. I suppose some people might call this a “glass-sided elevator,” but I prefer the imagery of the little room standing still and the building moving around it 😀 At any rate, here’s the view from the 8th floor next to the elevator stack:

The next two days will be quiet ones, but I intend to get out for some archery so there should be at least some photos to share!
