Summer 2019 Road Trip, Day 15

The day’s drive was short, heading home from Ithaca NY, but I wasn’t in any hurry and didn’t feel like traveling the interstates I’ve been on so many times. I’d also decided to do a brewpub either in Hyde Park or Poughkeepsie NY (check the other blog for the result of that decision), so I set the GPS to “avoid highways” and headed east-ish through the Catskills.

I was enjoying the scenic drive so much that it wasn’t until much later that I realized I should have been stopping to take pictures! But I didn’t, so you’ll have to trust me when I say that it was a truly interesting drive with steep ups and downs and lots of winding around and stunning lake views.

At the end of the day, I filled the tank — the first time since leaving Cleveland, 630 miles with a couple of gallons to spare — and captured these trip statistics after parking in the garage at home:

(Notice the range estimate … 666 miles.)

The car doesn’t calculate average speed, but it was about 53 mph, indicative of the time spent on secondary routes rather than interstates.

Finally, here’s the route I took. And as for next year? I’ve promised a swing by Minneapolis, and I’d like to do the Lake Huron side of Michigan again. It’s also been suggested that California would be a worthy destination … but other than that, I don’t know. Yet. I’m sure I’ll start thinking seriously about routing come the Spring 🙂
