2019 Summer Road Trip, Day 4
Today I travelled from Salina KS to Leadville CO, gaining almost 9,000′ in elevation along the way. The car didn’t appreciate the 250-or-so miles remaining in Kansas, as they were mostly uphill and with a strong headwind. Once into Colorado, things got easier until Denver when I hit heavy traffic and crazy road construction.
I-70 west of Denver was the real entry into mountain scenery, and Leadville has splendid views of two mountain ranges. My hotel in Leadville was the Delaware House, a Victorian-era building that has recently been converted back into a hotel (2nd and 3rd floors only – the 1st floor is retail, as it always had been) and was extremely quaint. I stayed on the second floor, the hallway of which was lined with antiques for sale. It was a good choice, though, as it meant that I could walk to most of what I wanted to do in town.
Here are pictures of the inside of the hotel:

After a visit to Periodic Brewing, I went for a short walk through the town. There were wonderful views of Mount Massive as well as interesting decorative items in the town itself.
