Road Trip 2017 Day 11
After a quiet start to the day, I met my friend Stephanie and we headed east to Blue Rock State Park for archery and hiking. We’d been there a couple of years ago, but had to cut the trip short because she’d cut her thumb with a knife.
This time, I was in great form shooting and at one point she actually admitted that the student had surpassed the master! But then she adjusted the brace height on her bow and got back into her usual form and whipped my ass for the rest of that time. As I told her, I’m going to remember that I beat her – the rest was simply a minor technicality 😉
Then we went hiking, which ended up being her (unintended) revenge on me as she went bounding up steep hills that had me struggling in the heat and sun. It made me realize how out of shape I’ve become; I really need to get serious about losing weight and getting back on the treadmill to gain endurance back. At least there were wild raspberries growing all over the park – we had nice treats for the hike!
Finally, we headed back to Columbus, stopping for ice cream before getting on the interstate. All told, we spent a bit over five hours together and she was past done with direct human interaction by then.
Even though I had intended to take pictures at the park, I never did. She hates having her picture taken anyway, and I just wasn’t willing to annoy her by doing so.
It was a great ending day to this part of the trip; Monday and Tuesday will be driving back home.
