Road Trip 2017, Day 10

My primary observation for the day is that drivers in northern Michigan are much more relaxed and polite than drivers in southern Michigan and Ohio. Getting below Lansing or so is just like being back in Massachusetts and Connecticut in terms of rudeness and failure to perform simple tasks like using turn signals.

Except for a construction zone in Michigan that was so backed up that the GPS reported that I lost a full half hour, today’s trip was pretty decent. I drove from Battle Creek to Deer Creek State Park, south of Columbus OH, then back up to Columbus to my hotel. While at Deer Creek, I braved the hot sun and the humidity to do some archery – I could have done better, but was surprisingly wrung out from the weather!

As I was headed from the range to the archery trail, a couple pulled in and mentioned that they had gone first to the gun range but that it was under water! And not just under a little water, but up to the roof of the building there!! No wonder it was so humid with all the rain they’ve obviously received here …

I picked up a sandwich and fruit salad from Jason’s Deli in Columbus and ate at Antrim Park, then walked a couple of laps around the lake (1.2 miles per lap). This is a popular spot for walkers and runners, and tomorrow it will be the site of the swimming portion of a triathlon! There was a guarded bike area with all of the bicycles pre-staged for the post-swim leg of the race, hundreds and hundreds of them.

Today’s photos are of Antrim Lake (the big buoys in the lake are there for the swim event). It doesn’t seem fair that I only have three more days to this trip; Wednesday will come much too soon and will be a rude re-introduction to work.
