Road Trip 2017, Day 8

Today was pretty much a wash-out, weather-wise. It started out in the 50s, very windy, and with occasional rain. My car was parked about 50 feet from the hotel entrance; I took my suitcase out and was perfectly dry until I opened the trunk, and was soaked by the time I got back inside the hotel lobby!

I’d really hoped to stop at at least a couple of places along the Lake Huron shore and get out for a hike and some photos, but that just wasn’t possible given the rain and wind. As I eventually moved more inland, the temperature rose, and when I pulled into Frankenmuth at 4pm, it was in the low 80s and incredibly humid.

Dinner was at the Frankenmuth Brewery (well worth visiting!). While I was eating, I overheard someone else saying they were just waiting out the rain and I thought, “It’s sunny, isn’t it?” Then I looked out a window and realized it was raining so hard that I couldn’t see anything! And that’s pretty much the story of today.

If the weather in the morning looks better, I’ll probably head back to the shore and try to actually see more of Lake Huron. I’m not sure yet where I’m headed for tomorrow night … whether staying in Michigan or heading down into Ohio … but I’ll figure it out before leaving in the morning.

So no photos from today – but tomorrow will hopefully be a more productive day!
