Road Trip 2017, Day 7

Is it really Day 7? It’s hard to keep track, but at the same time, this means I’m over halfway through this trip. That’s an unfortunate realization.

It was cool and rainy this morning, so rather than spend most of the day on Mackinac Island as originally planned, I took a drive west to the Lake Michigan shore in search of sun, which I did eventually find. I aimed for Arcadia, then went up the coast to an overlook I’ve always enjoyed:

After that, I wandered further north as far as the Sleeping Bear Dunes, then then turned east for Traverse City and the Rare Bird Brewpub. This place seems quite new from looking at the website, and was started by a gal who loved brewing beer and a guy whose love is birds (but who also runs the place). The food was good and the beer was great 🙂

It was 82 and sunny when I left Traverse City and it was 62, cloudy and windy when I arrived back at my hotel in St. Ignace! I tried sitting outside my room for a while, but it was too chilly in the wind and Mackinac Island wasn’t visible anyway because of the low clouds.

Tomorrow, I’ll head south along the Lake Huron coastline, the opposite direction from last year’s trip. I had given some thought to spending the morning on the Island so I could do some horseback riding, but after reading a large number of negative reviews of that riding stable based on the treatment of the horses, I’ve decided against it.
