Road Trip 2017, Day 3
Sorry, no pictures from today (yesterday, at this point)!
The day started with a drive from Battle Creek to East Lansing to have breakfast with my friend Beth and her wife, Lisa. The three of us talked for a while – it’s been 11 or 12 years since I’ve seen Lisa – and then Lisa headed off for the garden center while Beth and I took a long walk around the neighborhood with their dog.
I was there for about an hour and a half in total, then headed back south and west, ending up in Michigan City IN after some very relaxing back roads travel. There were a couple of spots where I really should have stopped for pictures along the way … but didn’t … some of those little towns have absolutely delightful lakefront parks!
Late lunch/early dinner was at the Shoreline Brewery in Michigan City, where I’d been last summer. It was still as good, but much busier this year than I remember. I wandered around an outlet mall to kill time, then checked in to my hotel, dropped everything off, and drove to Valparaiso University, where I spent two years on a masters degree.
Valpo has changed so much even in just the four or five years since I last stopped there! Landmarks I knew are gone and I don’t think I could have found my way around without the GPS to actually get me into the university grounds. Even there, things have changed so much. It was nice to see, though, and even better to get back to the hotel for a leisurely evening of reading.
